My mom

My mom has a very fun travel blog.

Last year I linked to her blog from this blog, but as soon as I did that she stopped posting to her blog for a while (no internet access where they were traveling).  I had to take her blog off the list of great blogs I read because, well, I got tired of going there to re-read the post about their visit to Prince Edward Island.

A week after I pulled them from my link list, of course, they started posting to it again.

If you're interested in what it's like to winter in an RV in Florida, check it out

I would like to point out here that that I have come a long way to be able to say, in public, the following sentence:  "My mother & stepdad winter in an RV in Florida."

Oh, and just FYI an RV is not an airstream trailer.  I learned that last year.

Pregnant Yoga & Mommy Drive-bys

I had the following conversation with a pregnant co-worker at the office last week.  We were talking about how difficult it was to watch the numbers on the scale increase, even though we know intellectually that it's all "baby weight".

Me: ... It makes me feel like I should be, I don't know, like, working out or something.

Co-worker:  I hear you. I bought a pregnant yoga DVD.

Me: Oh yeah? How is it?

Co-worker: It's pretty good.

Me: Is it hard?

Co-worker: No, it was easy.  I just sort of popped it in the DVD player, made myself a bowl of popcorn, and watched it thinking to myself: Hmmm.  Yeah.  I should be doing that...

In other news, I lost about 2 hours of my life today reading the comments section of this mommy blog
The author of this blog invited people to share their personal experiences with "Mommys Drive-bys", which are apparently mothers who have no problem criticizing the parenting skills of other mothers.  I never knew that parenting was such a dog-eat-dog world. Yikes!

To-do list is to-done!

It's a quiet, snowy Monday morning and I'm relaxing for the first time in months because, well, because the enormous pre-baby to-do list is coming to a close.  Thank God. Thank God. (The second 'Thank God' is from Fabulous Husband, and is delivered with even more enthusiasim than mine).

Something about becoming pregnant inspired me to make a list of house-related projects that (I decided) absolutely had to be completed before our daughter's arrival. I've read about this behavior in pregnancy books, and it appears to be a classic case of what they call 'nesting'.

I don't know what made me think this was a good idea to make such a list.  I'm the kind of person that has a difficult time living with any form of incomplete list. Just ask Fab Husband, who has to live with my laser-like focus on working at whatever task is at hand until either the task is completed or he is picking me up from a big, pregnant, weepy puddle on the floor.

The list included:

1. Replace downstairs carpet with wood floor
2. Paint living room, hallway and upstairs hallway
3. Paint the baby's room
4. Remove all the stuff being stored in the baby's room
5. Select best photographs of all family & friends, print them, frame them, and hang them (almost done!)
6. Make The List Of Stuff we need for the baby; consult Sandie, edit The List Of Stuff
7. Acquire all fifty items on said list
8. Set up items purchased from said list (Fab husband has a lot of design suggestions for Graco)
9. Get a coffee table that does not need coasters; one that looks elegant but that a child could eat from, draw on, spill juice on etc. without mom & dad freaking out (ok, mostly mom).
10. Figure out all of the baby paperwork; make a budget for the time I won't be working. (This was Fab Husband's to-do).
11. Re-organize the upstairs bathroom cabinets.
12. Make a list of stuff we need to take to the hospital.

Posting this has been cathartic.  Thanks for indulging me.

From here on in, I guess we wait. At least I can relax while we're waiting. :-)
